Complete the new quest easily in DLC

In the new Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Brushes with Death DLC, the Chiaroscuro quest sends Henry on a mission to secure a Basilisk Egg for the painter Voyta in Trosky Castle.

In this article, we will talk about the step-by-step guide to find the Black Cockerel Egg, locate the Toad Nest, and complete the quest easily.

Starting the Chiaroscuro quest

After completing the Source of Inspiration quest, start Chiaroscuro by speaking with Voyta at the Veles shrine or after 24 in-game hours in Trosky Castle.

If you are already with him, there is no need for a delay. Voyta assigns Henry to find a Basilisk Egg, which requires a Black Cockerel Egg and a toad’s nest ritual in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Step 1: Visit Semine and Talk to Farmer Slavek

First, you have to fast travel to Semine and equip a high-charisma outfit (like noble clothing, charm +5) to boost your chances.

Now approach Farmer Slavek, marked on your map and start the dialogue:

  • “They say you’ve got a black cockerel.”
  • Pass the skill check with “I’m here on orders from the Lords of Trosky” (easiest with high charisma).
  • Ask, “Did the cockerel lay eggs?” and “Did you keep any of its eggs?”

Now, Slavek reveals that the cockerel, killed for its “devilish” egg-laying, was discarded in a dung heap south of Lower Semine.

Step 2: Find the Black Cockerel Egg

Now, you have to head towards South from Semine toward the road’s bend near the horse trader. Locate the dung heap at the forest’s edge.

Here you will find the cockerel’s corpse and the Rooster’s Egg. Loot the egg to proceed. Keep an eye out for two wild hounds and flee on horseback or fight unarmed to maintain your Lent achievement.

As DBLTAP points out, sneaking (crouching with C) allows you to avoid combat in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Step 3: Place the Egg in the Toad Nest

Now, you have to travel west to the swamps near Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn, marked by a yellow search zone.

Concentrate on the southeastern part, where a little island with four shattered trees rests. Turn up the audio to hear the toad croak and guide you to the nest.

Approach the black, destroyed tree to receive an Investigate prompt (L1 on PlayStation 5, LB on Xbox). Hold to zoom in, and then interact to deposit the egg beneath the tree.

Step 4: Wait for the Basilisk Egg

Now, leave the swamp until the toad sounds fade and the quest objectives vanish from the screen. Quickly get to Zhelejov Wagoners’ Inn or climb the surrounding hill.

The delay mechanic (T on PC, Touchpad on PS5) allows you to skip time for 24 hours. If the objective does not update, proceed further or skip again.

Return to the tree, where the Basilisk Egg is waiting in the dirt, clearly marked for easy pickup in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Step 5: Deliver the Egg and Final Dialogue

Now, return back to Trosky Castle and give Voyta the Basilisk Egg to earn a Gemstone Silver Ring. To earn extra reputation, start this dialogue:

  • “Thank you”
  • “What do you expect from this paint?” (needs 20 Scholarship)
  • “Why is your head a mess?”
  • “You don’t just want to stay here for free, do you?”
  • “What do you need to finish?”

This unlocks new shield painting symbols and initiates the Portrait in Red quest after 24 hours in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
