It’s Clobbering Time!
NetEase has dropped the official trailer and gameplay of both Human Torch and The Thing who will be joining the Marvel Rivals roster on February 21, 2025.
In this article, we will talk about The Thing’s abilities, playstyle, gameplay, cons and more details. Without wasting any more time, let’s get right into it.
The Thing abilities
Benjamin Jacob “Ben” Grimm aka The Thing is a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals who has a team up with other Fantastic Four characters and Wolverine.
- Rocky Jab (Basic Attack): Rapidly punch forward and primary attack. He seems more like a boxer.
- Stone Haymaker: Deliver a devastating heavy blow. Now, this is the secondary attack (RMB / LT) and it doesn’t have any cooldown. It almost charges instantly and has a good range.
- Yancy Street Charge: Continuously charge forward, launching up enemies and leaving behind a zone at the final position that prevents the use of mobility abilities. Now this ability makes him more like a diving tank.
- Embattled Leap: Jump toward your ally and apply damage reduction to both of you. Pretty good ability and will play a major role in some dangerous situations.
- Unyielding Will (Passive): Immune to launch-up, knock-back, and other displacement effects. Now this is what makes him an unmovable knock. You can’t move him with any CC ability, Knockup or even hooking abilities.
- Cooperative Comrades: The Invisible Woman taps into her powers, channeling Psionic Might to fortify the entire Fantastic Four team. This formidable force bolsters Mister Fantastic, The Thing, and Human Torch, granting damage resistance. Once activated, they can continually generate bonus health, making up for lost health with each passing movement.
- Clobberin’ Time (Ultimate): Use immense power to launch all enemies in front of you into the air. All your enemies will be stunned when they will get hit.

Playstyle & gameplay
The Thing is pretty much similar to Hulk when it comes to moving and diving tanks. As you can guess, playing him as a solo tank in team comp would be stupid.
But Unyielding Will passive really makes him a good diving tank. I think he might be better than Hulk in many regards. His Ultimate seems kind of weak when it comes to creating more impact. However, his Ultimate has a great potential to do a combo with other Ultimates or diving heroes skills.
