Good news for the Switch fans

This announcement is coming straight from Nintendo about the Nintendo Switch 2 having backward compatibility for the games. This is very good news for Nintendo and Switch fans all over the world.

This is the first major acknowledgment and news that Nintendo has announced. So far, fans have been hearing that we might have to wait for the Switch 2 by March 2025.

Know more about Nintendo Switch 2 backwards compatibility

This is what Mr. Furukawa posted for Nintendo Switch 2 backwards compatibility from the official Nintendo account on Twitter/X:

“This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

This means two things: those who have previously purchased Nintendo Switch games can keep them, and it is safe to buy new games regardless of when the Switch 2 comes out.

It also means that we are unlikely to see titles released on both systems at the same time. Alternatively, titles that were previously launched on the Switch are being reworked for its successor. This occurred throughout the first year of the Switch’s existence, with games such as Mario Kart being re-released on the Switch after being produced for the WiiU.

Further information or any announcement will be made later according to him. Also, Nintendo plans to strengthen relationships with other software publishers.

For years, Switch was the number one brand worldwide, with a strong presence in the United States and Japan. For Japanese developers considering multiplatform development (cough, SquareEnix), the decision to support Nintendo Switch 2 should be simple.
