Don’t expect anything for now!
After the record-breaking success of the Minecraft film, which grossed $58 million on its opening day, rumors have started to go around for the Fortnite movie as well.
However, before it could grow, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney shut down the whole drama by saying, “False” to those rumors. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Fortnite Movie Rumors
On April 5, 2025, a now-deleted X post by leaker DanielRPK ignited a spark among Fortnite fans by claiming that there were multiple talks about a Fortnite movie in the past.
DanielRPK wrote, “You just know Fortnite is next. There was already talk of a Fortnite movie, but some studios passed on it. That’s obviously gonna change now.”
However, this rumor didn’t last long when the Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, denied them by saying that they were false.
Sweeney’s forthright rebuke, which seldom comments on speculations, effectively put an end to the idea of a movie in the works. DanielRPK later followed up, asking Sweeney if it was true that Sony turned down a movie chance a few years ago, but as of April 6, 2025, Sweeney had not responded.
After Minecraft’s huge success on the opening weekend, many fans and studios started to speculate that there is a chance for more live-action video game movies.
We have already seen live-action series such as The Last of Us, Fallout and even rumors about a new League of Legends live-action series. So, there is no doubt that fans expect that a Fortnite movie might happen in the future.
With Fortnite’s global popularity—boasting over 230 million active players as of early 2025, there is no doubt that the movie might do very well if they make it properly with proper casting. What are your thoughts on this and will you be excited to watch the Fortnite movie in theatres? Do share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
