The Witcher 4: Ciri will have more meaningful romance options

No more flings?

The romance in the Witcher series was really kind of wild. However, with The Witcher 4, it is going to change. In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which came out in 2015, players had to choose between Yennefer and Triss, plus a few extra flings to spice things up.

But now, CD Projekt Red is set to change this dynamic and move towards a more romantic and meaningful option with their upcoming game. Let’s check out more details in this article.

A shift in romance approach

During The Game Awards 2024, CD Projekt Red surprised fans with the 6-minute trailer of The Witcher 4 with Ciri as their new protagonist for the upcoming saga. This will give a fresh perspective to the fans in terms of relationships.

Sebastian Kalemba, CDPR’s game director, recently revealed in an interview how romance will be handled in the upcoming game. This time the romance will be meaningful and will reflect human nature.

“It’s a part of the way we make games. It is a part of human nature. It’s a very normal thing. Without that, I think we wouldn’t be able to tell the very full story,” Kalemba stated.

He also clarified, “We want to pay a lot of attention to it and make it super compelling and very meaningful. So it’s not just to make a romance for the sake of making a romance. That’s not the CDPR way.”

Fans are already familiar with this approach in Cyberpunk 2077, where the relationship develops with time, influencing the story with mission, dialogues and numerous exchanges. It’s just like how the humans do it in real life.

What to expect?
