Diablo to take centre stage
The Executive Producer, Matt Zitterman, has recently explained the plans for the next title and for Diablo 4.
He explained that Blizzard wanted to make a story around Diablo that could rival or even surpass Lilith and Mephisto in the recent games.
The development team also wanted to gather information from the fans and players. The team gathered feedback from Diablo 4 players.
They finally concluded that the series needed some significant changes and that can’t be delivered through an expansion or DLC.
Thus, they decided to go with Diablo 5 and bring back the most iconic villain of the franchise.
Lord of Terror’s biggest story yet!
Matt said that Diablo deserves his own campaign rather than just an expansion. The developer pledges to offer a narrative that’s as “compelling” as Diablo 4’s Lilith storyline and Mephisto’s character for the series.
In the sequel, set in a world where Diablo has already won, Sanctuary is in ruins. The survivors will be gathered in a mobile base, a moving caravan, which will roam the destroyed world.
There are also a number of gameplay additions that have already been confirmed such as the return of procedurally generated dungeons, classic classes such as the Demon Hunter and Monk and an all-new Plague Knight class.
Diablo 4 will get seasonal updates
So, after the announcement of Diablo 5, what will happen to Diablo 4? The team has confirmed that the game has not been abandoned yet.
Diablo 4 will continue to get seasonal content and gameplay updates, but it won’t receive any paid expansions.
The future seasons may bridge the gap for the story and narrative between Diablo 4 and Diablo 5.
