New footage and developers’ deep dive

Today at Capcom’s Spotlight event, new information about Resident Evil Requiem was revealed for the fans.

There was even some brief footage of gameplay shown and the director even talked about why they didn’t consider Leon Kennedy as a main protagonist for this game.

Leon won’t get scared very easily

Capcom revealed some new footage of the Resident Evil Requiem gameplay, where we can see Grace Ashcroft trying to navigate her way through a house.

She seems very scared and switches between third-person perspective and first-person were also shown in the gameplay.

The developers and the game director, Koshi Nakanishi, said that they wanted “Horror” to be a key aspect of Resident Evil Requiem.

Koshi Nakanishi also said:

We always thought about making Leon the protagonist, but making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn’t jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing. So he’s actually a bad match for horror.

Thoughts

That is absolutely true, as Leon Kennedy is considered to be John Wick of the Resident Evil universe. Seeing him flinching and getting scared in small scenarios would be too idiotic.

But I still believe that he will be present in the game. Alongside Grace, there might be two protagonists in the game.

The developers have also officially confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem takes place 30 years after Raccoon City was bombed. According to this, Leon would be 51 years old.

Also, the game’s hands-on demo experience will be available at Gamescom 2025 in August 2025. Resident Evil 9 is releasing on February 27, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
