US Open 2024 will continue without Jon Rahm, with Jackson Super.
Jon Rahm, a two-time major champion, has withdrawn from the US Open 2024 Championship at Pinehurst No. 2 due to a lingering foot infection. The infection, which had caused him to withdraw from a LIV Golf event in Houston the previous week, raised concerns about its potential impact on his overall game and long-term health.
Rahm, who had been scheduled to make his ninth appearance in the US Open, announced his decision on social media, stating that he had consulted with numerous doctors and his team, and it was best for his long-term health to withdraw from the competition. He expressed his disappointment and appreciation for the USGA staff, volunteers, and the community of Pinehurst for hosting the event.
The infection, located between his fourth and fifth toes on his left foot, had been causing significant pain and swelling. Rahm had attempted to manage the condition by wearing a shoe and a flip-flop, but ultimately decided it was not feasible to compete at the high level required for the US Open.
Rahm’s withdrawal also marks the end of his longest active made-cut streak in majors, which had stood at 18 events since the 2019 PGA Championship. He had been dealing with the infection since the LIV Golf event in Houston, where he withdrew during the second round. Despite his struggles with the injury, Rahm had expressed optimism about his chances of playing in the US Open, but ultimately decided it was best to prioritize his long-term health.
The US Open will continue without Rahm, with Jackson Super, a 24-year-old golfer from Tampa, Florida, taking his place in the field. The tournament is set to begin on Thursday, with live coverage available on Sky Sports and streaming on NOW.
