This is the first big tournament for India’s new coach, Frederic Soyez

The AHF Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2026 is set to be played from September 4 to September 13 in Moqi, China. A total of ten teams will be in action, with two pools of five each. India, Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Indonesia make up pool A, while Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and Kazakhstan form pool B.

India, who clinched the title five times previously, would be gunning for their fourth straight gold medal. Defender Anmol Ekka would be leading a side that contains a few players from the squad that clinched the bronze medal at the Junior Hockey World Cup in Tamil Nadu last year, along with some new faces. This is also the first big tournament for coach Frederic Soyez, who took over the reins from PR Sreejesh.

The squad has gone full throttle in terms of their preparation for the competition. This includes an exposure tour of Belgium, where the team was pitted against quality U-21 opposition from Austria, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

The side also went up against the Malaysian U-21 side in Bengaluru, followed by a three-game series against China in Dalian. Thus, there is no doubt that the team is match-ready, both in terms of honing its skill set and improving fitness. While they are yet again favourites, the side ranked number #4 in the FIH rankings would not want to take anything for granted.
