India would be aiming to win their third straight title

The AHF Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2026 is set to be played from September 4 to September 13 in Moqi, China. A total of ten teams will be in action, with two pools of five each. The Elite Pool includes India, China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia, with Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Pakistan making up the Challenger Pool.

This tournament poses a wonderful opportunity for young individuals to make an impact and pave their way towards bigger targets.

India, ranked number #8 in the world, will be vying for a hat-trick of Junior Asia Cup titles. Led by midfielder Khaidem Shileima Chanu, the side has toured the United Kingdom, where they played a total of seven games against the Scotland Senior Women, USA U-21, England U-21 and Belgium U-21.

Coach Tim White, who was appointed earlier this year, would thus have had an opportunity to work on combinations and strategies and fill the existing gaps. With India entering as overwhelming favourites, let us now have a look at all the details about the AHF Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2026.

What is the format of the tournament?

A total of ten teams are participating in the competition and have been divided into two pools of five each. The first pool is the Elite Pool, while the other is the Challenger Pool. All five teams in the former will qualify for the quarter-finals, while three from the latter make up the rest of the line-up.

The first-ranked team in the Elite Pool will play the third-placed team from the Challenger Pool in the first quarter-final. The teams ranked second in both pools will play in the second quarter-final, and the teams occupying the third spot in the Elite Pool and the top spot in the Challenger Pool will be pitted against each other in the third quarter-final. The fourth quarter-final will see the bottom two teams from the Elite Pool face each other.

The winners of the first and fourth quarter-finals will play the first semi-final, while teams that emerge victorious from the other two quarter-finals will play the second semi-final. The winning semi-finalists will play for the gold medal, while the losers will compete in the bronze medal fixture.

The two bottom-ranked sides from the Challenger Pool will play in the 9/10-place classification match. The losers of the first two quarter-finals will face each other in the 7/8-place classification match. Meanwhile, those suffering defeats in the third and fourth quarter-finals will face off in the 5/6-place classification match.
