India are unbeaten since 2016 against Pakistan
The Indian men’s hockey team will take on Pakistan in the men’s hockey semi-final of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Thursday, October 1. The two arch-rivals will face each other at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara, with a place in the final up for grabs.
India, the defending champions, enter the fixture after a perfect Pool A campaign. The Men in Blue have won all five of their pool-stage matches, opening their campaign with a 13-1 win over Indonesia.
They followed that with a 16-1 win over Sri Lanka, an 8-2 win against South Korea, and a hard-fought 2-0 win against hosts Japan. A 10-0 demolition of Bangladesh secured India’s place in the knockout stages.
India have been in superb scoring form, having netted 49 goals in the pool stage. Dilpreet Singh has scored nine goals, while Abhishek and captain Harmanpreet Singh have netted eight goals each at the tournament.
However, India will be without influential midfielder Raj Kumar Pal, who suffered a thumb injury against Bangladesh. He was replaced by Nilakanta Sharma ahead of the semi-final.
Pakistan, meanwhile, enter this match as Pool B runners-up. They opened with a 9-0 win against Thailand before beating Uzbekistan 5-1, China 3-0, and Oman 7-2. The Green Shirts’ only defeat was a narrow 5-4 loss against Pool B winners Malaysia.
