Indian Sports Calendar April 2024: Events to watch in fourth week

Sailing and Shooting events will offer Olympic quota places this week.

April’s third week in Indian Sports Calendar saw the Indian grapplers win three Olympic quotas. While the male wrestlers disappointed, the women’s wrestlers clinched three quotas for Paris 2024. Gukesh D is also doing well at the candidates and is currently in sole lead at the top.

This latest week of April will also offer athletes another opportunity to seal their spot and quota places for Paris Olympics. Sailing and shooting are sports that will offer Olympic qualification chances. India is expected to win at least two quotas this week. Badminton action will also resume this week with the Indian men’s team looking to defend their Thomas Cup title.

Events to watch in fourth week of April in Indian Sports Calendar

Archery

The first of three Archery World Cups begins this week in Shanghai and the Indian archers will look to do well. Eyes will be on Deepika Kumari who returns to India’s recurve squad after a long time.

Athletics

The Asian Junior Championships will get underway from April 24.

Badminton

The badminton team world championships also known as the Thomas and Uber Cup will start this week. The fans will be excited to watch the shuttlers back in action. Indian men’s team who are the defending champions in the Thomas Cup will look to defend their title while the young Uber Cup team of India will look to impress everyone.

Boxing

  • April 25-8 May: Asian Youth Boxing Championships

Fencing

  • April 27-28: Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Cricket

The IPL 2024 has entered its middle stage with teams now either racing away to ensure a place in playoffs or falling behind. The highest total in the IPL has already been rewritten thrice this season. The Indian women’s team will tour Bangladesh for five T20Is.

  • April 28-9 May – India’s Tour of Bangladesh (Women)

Football

The ISL knockouts are underway along with other domestic leagues.

  • April 12-26: Reliance Foundation Development League (Ongoing)

Golf

  • April 25-28: LPGA JM Eagle LA Championship
  • April 25-28: ISPS Handa Championship

Judo

The Indian judokas will be in action at the Asian Judo Championships 2024, scheduled in Hong Kong, China.

  • April 20-23: Asian Judo Championships (Ongoing)

Para Sports

From the World Para Athletics Grand Prix to Spanish International, several para events are scheduled for this week.

  • April 21-29: Marrakech World Para Athletics Grand Prix
  • April 23-27: Spanish Para Badminton International 2024-I
  • April 22-1 May: Changwon WSPS World Cup 2024

Sailing

The final Olympic qualification for sailing will see Nethra Kumanan along with 16 other athletes in action. Vishnu Saravanan is the only one who has secured a sailing quota for the Paris Olympics 2024 so far.

  • April 18-27: Last Chance Regatta, Hyeres

Shooting

The Shotgun Olympic qualifier will be held this week which will be the last chance for athletes to qualify for the Olympics. India has already completed the rifle and pistol quotas by winning 16/16 available quota places. However, India has won only four quotas in shotgun — two each in skeet and trap. The shooters will look to grab more quotas from here. The top two in each category will get the Olympic quota.
