Indian Sports Calendar May 2024: Events to watch in final week
Indian pugilists will look to get more quota places for Paris 2024.
After a couple of hectic weeks for the fans, the last week of May will be relatively lighter. However, one can ensure a blockbuster week of Indian sports calendar with many exciting tournaments coming up. The boxing qualifiers will continue and the Indian pugulist will give their best to grab quota spots for Paris Olympics. Apart from boxing, several other blockbuster events like the French Open (tennis) and, the Singapore Open (badminton) will also take place.
Indian fans can watch the live athletics action in Chennai as Indian Grand Prix 2 will be taking place this week. The Munich World Cup will give good exposure to our shooters and will give an idea of where our shooters stand with the Olympics are around the corner. There is also squash, table tennis and volleyball action scheduled this week.
Major events to watch in May fourth week of Indian Sports Calendar
Athletics
Several Indian athletes are participating in athletics meets across the globe to get important ranking points and breach the Olympic qualification mark. Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra pulled out of the Ostrava Golden Spike meet as a precaution after issues in his adductor during training. The domestic athletics meet — Indian Grand Prix 2 will be taking place in Chennai this week.

Badminton
After the Malaysia Masters, the badminton caravan now shifts to Singapore. The focus will be on Satwik-Chirag, who recently won the Thailand Open title, PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy to perform well.

Boxing
The boxing Olympic qualifying event will continue this week. Indian male boxers are yet to open their account and will be eager to win quota places for Paris Olympics 2024. This event will be the last chance for Indian Pugilist to secure quota spots for the Olympics. Eyes will be on Nishant Dev, Amit Panghal, and Narender to win the quotas in their categories.

Cycling
The Indian cyclists will also be in action this week. Esow Alban and Ronaldo Laitonjam will be participating in the event in Germany.

Football
The Indian women’s football team will be in action against Uzbekistan as part of FIFA friendlies. India will play two matches on May 31 and June 4 with the matches set to take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Golf
Indian golfers, including Aditi Ashok, will be participating in a couple of tournaments this week.

Hockey
After the Belgium leg, the Indian hockey teams next move to London, England, for their remaining matches in the FIH Pro League 2023-24. Both the men’s and women’s team will face Germany and Great Britain respectively.

Shooting
The rifle-pistol team that will represent India at the Paris Olympics have been selected after the selection trials. The shooter will now go and participate in the Munich World Cup to get international exposure before the Olympics.

Swimming
Indian swimmers will look to breach the Olympic Qualification mark in the upcoming events this week. Eyes will be on Srihari Natraj, Sajan Prakash and to do well.

Squash
Akanksha Salunke, Rathika Suthanthira and Urwashi Joshi are participating in the PSA challenger tours. Ramit Tandon will be participating in the prestigious British Open.

Table Tennis
Sreeja Akula will be the lone Indian participating in the WTT Champions and will look to do well.

Tennis
The second grand slam of the year, the French Open main draw, will be starting this week. Sumit Nagal, Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri are the Indians who will be taking part in this event. Sumit Nagal will face Karen Khachanov of Russia in the first round of the French Open.

Volleyball
The AVC Challenge Cup 2024 will continue this week. The Indian women’s volleyball team lost in the group stage after putting up some really good fight. They will now play in classification matches.
