Indian Sports Calendar October 2024: Major events to look forward to in fourth week

India will be hosting four international events this week

The fourth week of October has a lot of action to follow for the Indian fans in the Indian sports calendar. Indian women’s cricket team, after a disastrous T20 World Cup campaign, will host New Zealand in a three-match ODI Series, while the men’s team will also hope to bounce back after a shock defeat in the first test at home.

As far as hockey in concerned, a blockbuster week awaits as both the Indian senior and junior men’s teams will be in action this week. The senior team will host Germany in a bilateral series in New Delhi, while the junior team continue their campaign at the Sultan of Johor Cup.

Among other sports, the Pro Kabaddi League and Indian Super League continues its season. In golf, Gurugram will host the Hero Women’s Indian Open. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Priya Malik at the U23 World Wrestling Championships, as she aims to clinch gold in 76kg category. There is also action in tennis, table tennis and squash.

Major events to follow in October Week 4 in Indian sports calendar

Cricket

After a shock defeat at home to New Zealand in the first of the three-match test series, Indian men’s cricket team will be desperate to recover quickly and level the series by winning the second test match in Pune. The women’s team will host New Zealand in Gujarat for a three-match ODI Series.

Meanwhile, newly crowned T20 World Champions, New Zealand visit India for a three-match ODI series, starting this Thursday. This will present the Indian women’s cricket team, who had a catastrophic World Cup campaign, an opportunity to regain some lost pride.

Fencing

Indian foil fencers will participate in Tournoi Satellite in Barcelona, Spain this week.

Football

This week, the top-flight domestic league will enter matchweek 6. Bengaluru FC continue to lead the points standings, but face pressure from Mohun Bagan and Jamshedpur FC, who are just three and four points behind respectively. East Bengal are the only side yet to register a point in the league so far.

Golf

India will host the 16th edition of the Women’s Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, Haryana.

Hockey

The Indian men’s U21 team are currently competing in the Sultan of Johor Cup 2024. India, who finished with a bronze medal in the previous edition, are aiming to lift the title for a record fourth time. Back home, the senior team will host Germany in a two-match test series at Delhi.

Kabaddi

Season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi League will enter its second week.

Squash

Veer Chotrani will participate in the copper-level tournament Cambridge Group of Clubs Classic. On the other hand, Tanvi and Akanksha will participate in the 2ème Open International

Table Tennis

Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra will be India’s sole representatives in the WTT Champions in Montpellier, France. Harmeet Desai, Yashashwini Ghorpade and Krittwika Roy will participate in the WTT Feeder, Cagliari, Hungary.

Tennis

Rohan Bopanna will be participating in the Vienna Open with his doubles partner Matthew Ebden. Sumit Nagal is in the qualifying draw of the Swiss Open. Yuki Bhambri and his partner Albano Olivetti will also be in the Swiss Open. Rohan and Ebden will also participate in the Paris Masters, later this week.

Wrestling

The U23 World Wrestling Championships will begin this week, and India will aim to continue its good run in the youth wrestling competitions, especially in the women’s wrestling. The non-Olympic age category World Championships will also be starting this week.
