Dabang Delhi and Haryana Steelers are in the PKL 11 semifinals.
Dabang Delhi secured their spot in the semi-finals of Pro Kabaddi 2024 (PKL 11) with a commanding 41-35 win over Gujarat Giants at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Monday.
Gujarat’s captain Neeraj and coach addressed the media after their loss, while Delhi’s captain Ashu alongside Naveen and coach shared their views on the team’s win in PKL 11.
The Season 8 champions extended their unbeaten streak to a record 15 matches, the longest in PKL history. Ashu Malik once again stole the show with a phenomenal 14-point performance, completing his 18th Super 10 of the season. The match also saw Naveen Kumar complete 1100 raid points in PKL.
“It is a good feeling, but I am happier about the team reaching the semifinal. We are doing well and this will give us confidence too, ” said Naveen Kumar.
On reaching the PKL 11 semifinals
The first half was a thrilling back-and-forth contest. Gujarat Giants started strong, executing an early ALL OUT to lead 10-5. However, Dabang Delhi K.C. found their rhythm through Ashu Malik’s exceptional raids, including a pivotal Super Raid that shifted the momentum. By halftime, Delhi had overturned the deficit to lead 20-17.
“We are not taking pressure at all, the semifinal and final are the same for us. We will see who we face and we will prepare according to what the coach says. Now in the top 6, all the teams are the same, ” said Naveen.
In the second half, Dabang Delhi K.C. took full control. Ashu Malik’s brilliance continued as he breached Gujarat’s defence time and again, while Naveen Kumar added to the highlights with his 1100th PKL Raid Point. Gujarat Giants showed resilience with a Super Tackle and spirited raids, but Delhi inflicted multiple ALL OUTs to maintain their dominance.
On Gujarat Giants’ PKL 11 campaign
With this win, Dabang Delhi K.C. not only confirmed their semi-final berth in PKL 11 but also underlined their credentials as strong contenders for the title.
“I am sad that the team did not display as much potential as they did in the practice. The trio of Rakesh, Parteek, and Guman could not do their best, neither could the defence. All I can say is that the mistakes we made in this season, we will look to not repeat them in the next season, ” concluded Gujarat Giants coach.
