Three-time Pro Kabaddi League champions Patna Pirates have continued their squad revamp ahead of Season 12 by signing Prianshu Lathwal and Saurabh Narwal as New Young Players (NYPs).The latest additions come shortly after the team announced the signings of Milan Dahiya and Ankit Rana clearly signaling their strong focus on youth development.
Lathwal, a left corner defender, whose gold medal at the Khelo India Youth Games and bronze at Junior Nationals have turned heads in kabaddi circles, arrives at a crucial juncture for the defending champions, who, currently have the likes of Thiyagarajan Yuvaraj for same position and, Lathwal’s addition strengthens the depth in this crucial position and the acquisition of Narwal further reinforces the defensive line as Left cover defender looks to create anticipated synergy with established defenders.
These defensive reinforcements follow the Pirates calculated approach to diversify their raiding departments after signing young raiders Milan Dahiya and Ankit Rana, both of whom excelled in junior competitions. Dahiya, a right raider, impressed in the Yuva Kabaddi Series with 116 points at an average of 7.73 per match, while Rana, a left raider, follows in the footsteps of Ayan Lohchab, who exploded in PKL 11.
Patna Pirates aim for its fourth title
Patna Pirates are preparing for an unprecedented fourth title in the Pro Kabaddi League after a 23-32 loss to first time champion Haryana Steelers in the final of PKL Season 11 on 29th December in Pune.
However, despite a disappointing finish, Devank Dalal shone through for the Patna Pirates in Season 11 with an outstanding raiding performance which saw him score the most number of points notching 301 points across 25 matches.
Ayan Lohchab made his worth known to the Pirates after a stunning 184-point contribution- validated the Pirates’ eye for talent.
The three-time champions, who dominated the league with consecutive titles from 2016 to 2017 and the first franchise to win PKL 100 matches would be gunning for their fourth title and Under coach Narender Redhu, the team’s evolving strategy suggests a fusion of their championship experience with fresh talent.
Their recent defensive reinforcements address Season 11’s vulnerabilities, where despite reaching the final, their defense showed inconsistencies.
