Sheetal Devi sets sights on Khelo India Para Games
She is currently ranked World No. 1 in women’s compound open category.
The inaugural Khelo India-Para Games are slated to begin on December 10 marking the entry of the nation’s para-athletes into this highly anticipated event. Among the stars is Sheetal Devi, the trailblazing armless archer, who has garnered attention nationwide.
Sheetal clinched double gold at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, followed by two team event golds and an individual bronze at the Asian Para Championship in Bangkok, Thailand. Securing a quota for the Paris Paralympics 2024, she now aims to add more medals, this time representing Jammu and Kashmir.
Acknowledging the challenges of competing against familiar faces, Sheetal emphasizes the unique pressure of playing against fellow archers she trains with regularly, contrasting it with the unfamiliarity of international opponents.
Hailing from Loidhar village in Kishtwar (J&K) and born with Phocomelia, Sheetal’s determination and talent have made her a household name, defying limitations imposed by her condition. Reflecting on her childhood, she recalls adapting to using her legs for tasks others typically manage with their hands.
Approaching the Khelo India Para Games, Sheetal stands as a symbol of inspiration, breaking barriers of ability and reshaping perceptions of what individuals can achieve.
