Fantasy Premier League: The bargain buys you should make this season
New Fulham acquisition Mitrovic scored 12 goals in the EFL Championship for the Craven Cottage outfit when on loan last season.
With the Premier League about to begin, the frenzy around the Fantasy Premier League has heightened with fans making their last few modifications before the deadline. Whenever you spend £12.5 on Harry Kane or £13.0 on Mohammed Salah, you know you will get points. But, it also means that you’ll be short on funds to get other good players. However, there are quite a few players who could make a difference and come on the cheap.
Here are seven good players who can provide your big guns support for a relatively cheap amount:
7. Aleksandar Mitrovic – £6.5 – Forward (Fulham)
Watch: Goals, skills and assists by Aleksandar MItrovic
For Premier League fans, Aleksandar Mitrovic is a Newcastle United reject, who had to join a Championship club to rejuvenate his career. But, he comes back to the Premier League as a hero and a deliverer. Mitrovic’s 12 goals in 15 starts for Fulham propelled them to the third spot in the Championship. His goals proved vital, as Fulham managed to overcome Aston Villa in the playoffs and gain promotion to the top flight.
He has also been in fine form for his country, netting six goals in seven appearances in 2018. In lieu of his impressive performances, Fulham made his loan move permanent and Mitrovic will be looking to deliver this time around in the Premier League.
6. Ivan Cavaleiro – £5.5 – Midfielder (Wolverhampton)
Watch: Goals and skills by Ivan Cavaleiro
Portuguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro had come from Monaco to Wolverhampton in 2016. Two years later, he is a top prospect in the Premier League, courtesy of his spectacular displays for Wolverhampton in the 2017-18 EFL Championship.
His eight goals and 12 assists in 31 starts for Wolves pushed them to the top of the table and they won the Championship title with ease. Cavaleiro will be the main supplier for the likes of Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez and at £5.5 he's a bargain.
5. Leighton Baines – £5.5 – Defender (Everton)
Watch: Free-kicks and penalty compilation of Leighton Baines
Solid defender. Trusted leader. Expert penalty taker. Leighton Baines is no stranger to followers of the Premier League. He has been a consistent player for the Merseysiders, leading the team from the front. He is also the penalty-taker for his team and as a full-back, there is a very high chance for him to provide assists as well.
Being a defender, he can get points for clean-sheets too. However, the Everton captain can be overlooked because of his price (£5.5) and the total score (82). He missed a major part of last season through injury, but he is back and if he stays fit, he can deliver points easily. Last season, he had three assists, five clean-sheets and two goals in only 22 appearances. One of the very few players who can give points on all fronts, Baines is a ‘must-be’ in your squad.

4. Mathew Ryan – £4.5 – Goalkeeper (Brighton & Hove Albion)
Watch: Best saves by Maty Ryan
Last season, the Australian keeper produced stellar performances for Brighton between the sticks, as his team escaped relegation comfortably. He finished with 10 clean-sheets and had an amazing 3.3 saves per game. Moreover, he is a guaranteed starter when fit.
Last season, he had 146 points and was the 5th best FPL goalkeeper. With top keepers like De Gea (£6.0) and Ederson (£5.5) being expensive, Ryan can provide enough flexibility for your outfield while giving you points.
3. Richarlison – £6.5 – Midfielder (Everton)
Watch: Dribbling skills, goals and assists by Richarlison
Richarlison had a dream start to his debut Premier League season, as he scored five goals in 12 games, announcing his arrival in style. However, over the course of the campaign, his and Watford’s performances dipped. But, now at Everton, he is rejoining his former manager Marco Silva, who brought him to the Premier League.
Silva had made Richarlison the centre-piece of his attack during his time at Watford. Now, at Everton, Richarlison would look to terrorize defenses like he did back then. He finished the 2017-18 season with five goals and four assists (eight FPL assists) as Watford finished an unimpressive 14th in the table. The 21-year-old has the potential to turn the dismal second half of last season around and his innate skill and wizardry over the ball will be crucial as the Toffees aim for a European spot. At £6.5, Richarlison is a player capable of giving 150+points.
2. Jamaal Lascelles – £5.0 – Defender (Newcastle United)
Watch: Defensive skills and goals by Jamaal Lascelles
Newcastle United ended the 2017-18 Premier League season in 10th spot after a topsy-turvy campaign. They scored only 39 goals throughout the 38 games, but were 7th best for least goals conceded. Whatever worries they had in attack were negated by outstanding performances in defense and standing tall amongst the defenders was Jamaal Lascelles.
Lascelles had nine clean-sheets and scored three goals finishing with a whopping 116 FPL points. His clean-sheets are more than impressive, considering that they came with three different goalkeepers. He was rated at £4.9 then and is available at a slightly increased price this season. His performances will be key for the Magpies this campaign too, as they look to improve on last term.
1. Tim Ream – £4.5 – Defender (Fulham)

[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]At £4.5 and a total score (from last season) of 0, Tim Ream can go unnoticed while choosing an FPL team. However, he was one of Fulham’s consistent performers as their season underwent a second-half rejuvenation. He appeared in 44 of the 46 Championship games last campaign.
The Cottagers finished their campaign with five clean-sheets and they only conceded one goal in three playoff matches as they secured promotion to the top flight. The American’s defending was a pivotal influence as Fulham returned to the glitz and glamour of the Premier League.
