The Greens also had defeated the Port Towners in the return fixture.

Stephen Satarkar scored a hat-trick as Salgaocar Football Club register a comfortable 4-1 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Port Town derby of the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Ronaldo Oliveira scored the other goal for the Greens, while Moises D’sa scored the consolation goal for the Port Towners.

Whereas, Salgaocar also had an upper hand when both the sides met last time in the league as the Greens defeated them by a 2-0 margin in the previous meet. With this victory, Salgaocar climbed to the fourth position with 35 points from 16 matches, whereas, Vasco remained on the sixth position with 27 points from 21 matches.

Vasco who were held by Sporting Clube de Goa in their last match started the match on attacking note as they took just five minutes to create their first opportunity of the match when Shubham Rao Dessai was in the commanding position in the box after Salgaocar keeper Jason D’Mello and defender Saurabh Patil fumbled with the ball but the Port Towner saw his lobbed attempt flung over the crossbar.

The next 15 minutes were restricted to the midfield play which ended with a swift attack from the Greens as Devendra Murgaonkar tried his luck from 25-yards but his sparkling shot hit the top corner and luckily went into Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa’s hands.

Vasco also had another chance to surge ahead as their skipper Penn Orji made a perfect cross to Rugved Yeole in the box but the set-pieces specialist failed to control his shot from inside the box.

A few minutes later, Salgaocar strike force Devendra nicely jelled with Ronaldo with a one-two-one passing just outside the box but shot wide from close. At the other end, the Port Towners came with another threatening attack from the halfway line as Dessai should have taken his side into the lead but Salgaocar keeper Jason came with a breath-taking save to deny the forward.

Salgaocar finally managed to open their tally in the 42nd minute as their striker Ronaldo’s powerful shot gave no chance to Vasco keeper Thapa, making it 1-0 for the Greens just before the halftime.
