U-20 Devendra Murgaonkar continues scoring as Salgaocar beat Guardian Angel
Salgaocar climbed to 3rd position with 20 points from 13 matches, while Angels remained at 6th position with 17 points from 13 outings.
Devendra Murgaonkar scored the only goal of the match as Salgaocar FC edged past Guardian Angel SC by a solitary goal in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
Angels had lost their last match against Vasco SC by a solitary goal, while, Salgaocar had defeated Calangute Association in their previous round match.
Angels lethal weapon, Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammad was unavailable due to suspension as Nicholas Rodrigues replaced him in the starting XI, while Sanwil D’Costa also made into the cut of the Curchorem based club. On the other hand, Salgaocar coach Norbert Gonsalves made only one change to his side as he gave the first start to defender Assumption Soares
Salgaocar marched on the opponents from the go as Gilbert Oliveira found Assumption in the box with a fine cross but the winger saw his header miss the target by few inches.
At the other end, Angels were unlucky not go into the lead when Rayman Fernandes unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box only to see it denied by the goalpost. A few minutes later, they had another chance when Clifton Dias tried his luck with a curling shot from the top of the box but Salgaocar keeper S. Rajini Kumar made a diving save to keep his side safe.
Devendra Murgaonkar who had scored a brace in the last two matches for Salgaocar, was once again on the score sheet when he made an easy tap-in from close after Angels defender Noclau Colavo failed to clear Gilbert’s low cross in the box as Salgaocar led 1-0 at the halftime.

Angels had the best chance to equalise with just two minutes in the second session when U-20 midfielder Joval Fernandes set up Perryson Rebello with just keeper to beat but the striker placed in the keeper's hands.

The best and the last chance for Salgaocar to inflate their lead came in the added time when their Nigerian striker Joel Sunday found Samuel with a lob ball but the winger placement missed the target by a whisker with Angels keeper completely beaten.
