The Spanish tactician's appointment could hint towards a possible tie-up between Jamshedpur and Atletico Madrid.

Indian Super League (ISL) side Jamshedpur FC are set to appoint former Atletico Madrid manager Cesar Ferrando for the upcoming season.

The Jharkhand based outfit appointed former Kerala Blasters head coach Steve Coppell in their debut season, but the Englishman decided not to extend his stay with the side and joined ATK for the upcoming campaign.

With the Englishman's departure to Kolkata, Jamshedpur were left with no head coach for the forthcoming season and Khel Now sources confirmed that the side was in talks with Atletico Madrid for a possible tie-up. Atletico, who previously had a tie-up with ATK (formerly Atletico De Kolkata) were expected to help in recruiting players and coaches alike, as well as in the team's pre-season preparations, as was seen during their stint with the Kolkata outfit.

Ferrando, 58, has prior experience of managing sides such as Atletico Madrid and Valencia B and is currently the manager of Spanish fourth division side CF La Nucía.

The Men of Steel were also in talks with former ATK head coach Antonio Lopez Habas. However, those talks seem to have broken down for reasons unknown.

As per reports, it is believed that Ferrando will get ₹1.5 Cr for the first season of ISL and presumably an extended version of the Super Cup, if it needs to be. The tactician is a tough man having a knack for attaining promotions in Spain and with the struggles of Jamshedpur in the ISL and Super Cup, it will be interesting to see how would he will fair.

Known for their defensive gameplay, Jamshedpur FC have signed four defenders to strengthen their backline in Pratik Chowdhary, Dhanachandra Singh, Sanjay Balmuchu and Raju Gaikwad.

Despite these signings, it is not yet clear what their gameplay will be like in the upcoming season if the Spanish gaffer indeed takes charge of the side. During the association of Atletico Madrid and ATK in the past, attacking gameplay has caught the eyes of many throughout the country and it will not be surprising if Jamshedpur continue the trend under Ferrando.
