Kerala Blasters sign defender Wes Brown for ISL 4

Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters have completed the signing of Wes Brown ahead of ISL 4. The defender joins Rene Meulensteen who was appointed head coach of the Blasters ahead of the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.

Brown brings a wealth of exoerience with him having played over 450 games of professional football at the highest level. The centre-back played more than 300 of these for Premier League giants Manchester United, while he has also represented Sunderland in the English top flight and Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

However, the defender's most successful spell came with the Red Devils with whom he spent 15 years under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, winning seven league tItles thrree League Cups, two Community Shields, FA Cups and UEFA Champions League crowns.

In 2011, Brown moved to Sunderland where he spent five seasons before joining Rovers for the last campaign. Interestingly, both of his last two clubs have been relegated. The Black Cats are now in England's second tier, while Blackburn have dropped a level below to League One.

The former United star came thrOugh the ranks at Old Trafford and won the club's Academy Player of the Year award twice in a row between 1997-99. He also featured on the PFA Team of the Year in the 2000-01 season.

The defender also has 23 England caps under his belt. He made his debut for the Three Lions in 1999 and was part of the England squad at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Brown and Blasters boss Meulensteen go back a long way and both have worked together during the player's time at the United academy and the senior team. His arrival adds to the English flavour at Blasters who were previously managed by Steve Coppell, another Englishman.
