Five-star Cavelossim drub Vasco in Goa Sevens
Suraj and Franzil shine in Cavelossim victory...
Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim thrashed Vasco Sports Club as they registered a thumping 5-1 victory in the Goa Sevens Premier League match played at SAG Ground, Fatorda earlier today.
Vasco coach Eban Misquita started with newly signed Terence Lobo and Sherwin Lobo. He also included Princeton Rebello in the starting seven, who was recently signed by FC Goa for Goa Pro League side. While, Suraj Hadkonkar was the only change in the Cavelossim side.
Cavelossim started the game on an attacking note as they created numerous attacks on the opponents. Franzil Negredo’s header from close range was brilliantly pushed for a corner by Vasco keeper Prabhakar Kattimani. A minute later, Franzil was in action again when he found Suraj in the box with a perfect cross. The striker nicely controlled the ball, turned around and blasted in to send his side to an early lead.
At the other end, Vasco had a good opportunity to level terms when Sherwin cut past two defenders and shot on goal from inside the box but Cavelossim shot-stopper Ozen Silva nicely fisted it over the crossbar.
Cavelossim doubled their lead through Franzil when he stylishly headed in from close off Suraj’s pinpoint perfect corner and made it 2-0 for Cavelossim.
The South Goan club had almost scored the third goal but Rayman Fernandes’ powerpacked shot was palmed by keeper Kattimani which later hit the post and came back into play.
On 18 minutes, Sunny Fernandes reduced the margin of the Portside club with a neat header which finished in the net, off Terence’s curling cross from the right flank.
Franzil and Suraj were once again successful in breaking Vasco’s last line as Franzil once again headed in the same style and restored two-goal lead of Cavelossim. The set-piece specialist Suraj was the architect of the gaol with a perfect corner.
On crossing over, Cavelossim’s Aaren D’Silva almost scored the fourth for his side when he brilliantly beat the keeper Kattimani with a perfect header but Princeton made a diving effort to clear it off the goal line. They had one more opportunity to inflate their lead when Rayman sent a through pass to Aaren, who covered some ground but failed to put power in his shot from inside the box.

While Rayman made it 5-1 when he calmly finished the ball in the back of the nylons in a one-on-one situation with keeper Kattimani.
The South Goan club was the dominant side in the entire match While, Vasco continued their poor performance from the Goa Pro League despite playing with some star players in the squad.
