GPL 2019-20: Dempo SC trounce Vasco SC

An own goal by Vasco defender Warren helped the Golden Eagles to open their account.
Dempo SC secured an easy 3-0 win over Vasco SC in the Goa Professional League on Thursday afternoon, courtesy to an own goal and back to back strikes from Suraj and Joaquim.
Vasco SC played without their defender Mainoo Dadanavoor, who is serving a suspension after picking up a red card in the previous match against FC Goa. Vasco SC head coach Micky Fernandes brought in Nived Satheeshan in the starting XI to replace the defender. Meanwhile, Dempo SC boss Samir Naik made three changes to his side which drew against Velsao SCC as Beevan D'Mello, Alber Gonsalves and U-20 forward Aman Govekar were back in the lineup.
[KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS]The match witnessed a possession-based gameplay in the first few minutes. The Port Towners had the early chance to take the lead throught a corner by Suraj Mondal, however, Nived failed to convert the chance.
Vasco SC received another opportunity in the next few minutes as Sanwil D'Costa made a curling cross in the box, however, Anil Goankar's header missed the target by a whisker.
[KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS]The Golden Eagles had to wait till 33rd minute to come close to scoring as they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. Vasco SC defender Warren Pereira brought down Dempo SC winger Yogesh Kadam but Nickson Castanha could not make most of the opportunity as the ball went wide from the set-piece.
With just few moments left to the half time, Anil had an opportunity to put Vasco SC ahead. Vasco player Suraj dribbled past three opposition defenders and found Anil in front of the Dempo SC keeper, however, the winger's was stopped by Luis Barreto on its track.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News | Article Continues Below"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]A few minutes into the second half, Dempo SC came up with a quick attack when substitute Suraj Hadkonkar's strike was brilliantly blocked by Vasco SC keeper Sanju. Dempo SC managed to break the deadlock with an own goal from Vasco SC defender Warren putting them in the lead.
Dempo's Alber came close to doubling the lead in the 74th minute but his strike was brilliantly blocked by the Vasco SC custodian.
Dempo SC added two more goals in the last quarter of the match. Two back to back goals from Suraj and Joaquim Abranches helped them defeat the Port Towners on Thursday afternoon.
