The Marina Machans are on a winless streak since February in the ISL.

Chennaiyin FC fell to another loss, this time at the hands of defending champions Bengaluru FC, with a thumping 3-0 win for the home side. The loss left Chennaiyin coach John Gregory with reasons to think not about his side's future, but his own.

The 65-year old was understandably dejected as his team once again came out with nothing to show for their efforts.

The tactician gave a fair reflection of the game saying, "We didn't start strong and fell behind to the two goals in a manner which is extremely frustrating for a coach. The second goal, in particular, was crucial. We gave away the ball from our attacking situation and Chhetri did extremely well and finished it."

Gregory added, "We were getting overrun in the first half and Bengaluru were causing us a lot of problems. We were always second to any ball on the pitch. Bengaluru took up the loose balls well. I rather think we finished strong. But, we didn't start well at all."

Match Highlights: Bengaluru FC 3-0 Chennaiyin FC

The most dramatic moment occurred when Gregory dropped the bombshell of (potential) resignation saying, "I think it's time I sat with the owner (Vita Dani) and have a deeper conversation than usual. She's been very supportive since the start, but we can't continue like this. The whole club's hurting at the moment and none more so than me."

He added, "I've carried this club on my shoulders for the past three seasons. It's not easy. I've never worked so hard in my life, as I have done in these past two and a half years. I think it might be time for somebody else to take over."

John Gregory continued, "For me, the club comes first and we have to do what's best for the club. Quite frankly, this is the worst I've been in the last two and a half years. For me, it is very personal. It's my club. I am an adopted Chennai boy and I'm hurting more than you would ever believe. This is my team and it's really hurting to see the situation we are in."

Having all but announced his resignation, it will be interesting to see how events unfold at Chennaiyin. They will play their next game against Hyderabad FC at home.
