The win helped the hosts to climb up to the fifth position in the league table.

At long last, reigning champions of the ISL, Bengaluru FC have their first win of the campaign – against bottom feeders Chennaiyin FC. The resurgent Blues simply swept a struggling Marina Machans side and cruised their way to a comfortable 3-0 victory on Sunday night. Erik Paartalu, Sunil Chhetri and Semboi Haokip registered their names on the scoresheet for Bengaluru FC and will be expected to build momentum when they return to face Kerala Blasters on the other side of the international break.

Here are how the domestic players performed on the night:

Bengaluru FC

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu- 7.0

Wasn’t overly troubled over the course of the match, as the home side were dominant for most parts. He was well protected by his defenders and wasn’t required to come into action often.

Rahul Bheke- 7.5

A solid performance by the Indian international, who gave the Chennaiyin wingers no room to progress in the final third. Put in a number of vital tackles in his own half as well.

Nishu Kumar- 7.5

Quite possibly one of the most underrated players in this Bengaluru side. Nishu put in a starring display for the Blues on Sunday night and was effective in neutralizing the threat of Dragos Firtulescu after he came on.

Watch: Bengaluru FC Vs Chennaiyin FC Highlights

Harmanjot Singh Khabra- 7.0

The versatile midfielder has been one of Carles Cuadrat’s favourite utility players so far this season. The Bengaluru FC midfielder put in an excellent display against Chennaiyin FC as well.

Ashique Kuruniyan- 8.0

Was operating out of a more advanced role on the left flank and linked-up well with other forwards in the first half. He began to fade away in the second 45, but Carles Cuadrat intervened and moved him back to left-back.

Sunil Chhetri- 8.0

Another masterful display by the Bengaluru FC skipper, as he scored what was arguably the best goal of the season so far. Chettri beat Vishal Kaith at his near post and was unfortunate not to get a penalty in the second half.

Udanta Singh- 7.0

The Bengaluru FC speedster certainly wasn’t at his best against Chennaiyin FC, as he lost the ball on multiple occasions. Despite this, he put in a good shift on the right wing and put in a couple of good crosses as well.

Substitutions

Semboi Haokip- 7.5

The 26-year-old striker came on and made quite the impact, giving Cuadrat more selection worries for the next fixture.

Eugeneson Lyngdoh- N/A

Didn’t have the time to make an impact.

Rino Anto- N/A

Came on too late and could not make any impact against Chennaiyin FC.

Chennaiyin FC

Vishal Kaith- 6.0

The Chennaiyin FC shot-stopper was helpless with regard to all Bengaluru FC goals and was extremely fortunate not to concede more on the night. However, Kaith distributed the ball well at times.

Tondonba Singh- 5.5

The Chennaiyin FC full-back went missing for the majority of the game and like the rest of his team, seemed to be clueless in the opening minutes of the match. Regained his composure in the second half.

Edwin Sydney Vanspaul- 6.5

One of Chennaiyin FC’s better performers at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday night, Edwin Sydney Vanspaul played a couple of decent balls in an attempt to release his strikers, but to no avail.

Dhanpal Ganesh- 5.0

Offered very little control in the middle of the park, as Bengaluru FC seemed to simply stroll past him at every attempt. He struggled to maintain possession in his own half and was often unconvincing on the ball as well.

Anirudh Thapa- 7.0

Chennaiyin FC’s best player on the night by a mile, the young Indian midfielder played many excellent forward passes and tried to get his team going. He wasn’t getting any help from his teammates though.

Rahim Ali- 5.0

Was a spectator for most of the game, as he never really had any influence in the match. Was rightly taken off by John Gregory in the second half.

Substitutions

Lallianzuala Chhangte- 5.0

Came on and had no visible impact on the game. Needs to be more consistent to keep his place in the team.

Thoi Singh- 4.0

Struggled with the pace of the game and offered nothing going forward either.
