The NorthEast United assistant coach also stressed that everyone from his side tried their best against the Islanders.

Following another stalemate against Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United assistant coach Khalid Jamil interacted with the media on Wednesday night.

NorthEast United had to come from behind to get a point against Mumbai City FC, with all the goals coming in the first half. The hosts started on a strong note and got themselves on the scoresheet, when Panagiotis Triadis opened the scoring.

However, Mumbai City FC fought back well and took the lead through a brace from Amine Chermiti. Asamoah Gyan was once again the saviour for the Highlanders, as the Ghanaian scored his third goal of the season to bring NorthEast back on level terms. The second half produced moments of excellence, but nothing substantial to get a goal, as both teams had to settle for a point each.

NorthEast United assistant coach Khalid Jamil lamented his team's lapse in concentration, which allowed Mumbai to take the lead. But, praised the efforts of the team to get back on level terms and get a point out of the game.

Talking about the team's performance, Khalid Jamil said, "Everyone tried their best. The defence wasn't weak, but there was a lack of concentration from the defenders."

"They (Mumbai City FC) have good players, experienced players and it doesn't matter whether they are Indian or others," Khalid Jamil further quipped.

The Highlanders sacrificed possession for the majority of the game and were focused on hitting the opposition on the counter attack. But, Khalid Jamil maintained that the formation was not bespoke and was based on the tactics set by coach Robert Jarni before the game.

Owing to the result, NorthEast United are one of the only two teams to remain unbeaten this season and Jamil aims to continue the record, despite not focusing too much on it. "We have to take it game-by-game and if we keep doing the right things, results will come automatically to us. We must keep giving our best and everything will be right," the 42-year-old concluded.
