The Indian tennis team will play in World Stage Group II for the first time in history.

ITF (International Tennis Federation) has released the schedule for the Davis Cup, in 2023. India will face Morocco at home in World Group 2 of the Davis Cup from (16-17 September or 17-18 September). Indian team recently lost to Denmark (2-3) in the World Group Stage I qualifiers and were relegated to World Group Stage II. This is also the first time India is getting relegated to World Stage Group II.

The winner of this match will be playing in the World Group I playoff match in February next year.

World Stage Group II has a total of 24 teams. 

Seeded Countries

1) Ecuador, 2) India, 3) New Zealand, 4) Mexico, 5) Pakistan, 6) Uruguay, 7) Lebanon, 8) Slovenia, 9) Tunisia, 10) El Salvador, 11) Hong Kong, and 12) Poland.

Unseeded Countries

Latvia, Barbados, Morocco, Indonesia, Ireland, Egypt, Monaco, Jamaica, China, Georgia, Thailand, and Luxembourg.

India is currently ranked 40th in the World Rankings and their Davis Cup opponents Morocco on other hand is ranked 55th. Morocco. As per the current rankings in singles, Elliot Benchetrit is the highest-ranked player at 450 followed by Adam Moundir at 678, and Lalami Laaroussi at 941. In the doubles section, Adam Moundir is ranked 614 followed by Elliot Benchetrit at 634, and Lamine Ouahab at 642. 

Indian players have a great opportunity to better their rankings as three Challengers are lined up in India which are set to be held in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune in the upcoming weeks. Top players like Ramkumar Ramanathan, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, and Sumit Nagal will be participating in the Challenger tours. 

Indian doubles specialists pair Yuki Bhmabri and Saketh Myneni will be taking part in the ATP 250 tour in Dallas and Qatar. Rohan Bopanna will partner with Matthew Ebden in the upcoming ATP tour events.
