Paris Olympics qualification to end on 28th April 2024.
At the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Badminton will offer a total of 172 quota places, evenly split between men and women, mirroring the quota system of the Tokyo 2020. Of these, 83 quota places per gender will be earned through direct qualification, with a spot reserved for the host country and two for the universal places.
There is a maximum limit of eight athletes per gender from the same National Olympic Committee (NOC) allowed to participate. Unlike some sports that assign spots to individual athletes, Badminton allocates all quota places to NOCs.
In the singles events, NOCs having two or more athletes ranked between 1 and 16 in the “Paris Ranking Lists” will secure two quota places. Otherwise, one quota place per NOC is allowed. Similarly, in the doubles events, NOCs with two or more pairs ranked between 1 and 8 will receive two quota places (for four athletes), while others secure one quota place per NOC.
Qualification pathway for singles events
The BWF “Race to Paris Ranking List” will serve as the pathway for 70 athletes, 35 in men’s singles and 35 in women’s singles, to secure qualification for the upcoming Paris Olympics. These quota places will incorporate the Continental Representation Places, ensuring a minimum of two athletes from each of the five BWF Continental Confederations in each singles event. To qualify through this route, athletes need to be ranked within the top 250 (1-250) in the BWF Race to Paris Ranking list as of 30 April 2024.
