Thierry Henry names France squad for 2024 Paris Olympics; Kylian Mbappe not included

Henry omitted Kylian Mbappe from France squad for Olympics
Kylian Mbappe was not included in Thierry Henry’s squad for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics and will not be competing for the hosts France.
The French sensation is anticipated to be revealed as Real Madrid’s newest acquisition following the Spanish powerhouses’ 15th Champions League victory this past weekend.
Mbappe’s attempt to play for Les Bleus in the Olympics this summer and UEFA Euro 2024 in back-to-back competitions, though, seems to have failed. The 25-year-old has made no secret of his desire to play, and French President Emmanuel Macron tried to get Real Madrid to approve Mbappe’s participation.
Henry acknowledged that it was challenging to assemble a team that might win the tournament because FIFA does not have any authority over the Olympics and clubs are not required to release players.
“Real Madrid were really straightforward about the Olympics,” said the legendary former France international who has selected Olympique Lyonnais’ Alexandre Lacazette.
“The last time I suffered this many rejections was back in my college days,” added the Paramount+ analyst. “There have not even been negotiations. You go, you ask, they say no and you leave.” Ex-Arsenal striker Lacazette will be one of two Premier League-based stars who qualify as overage along with Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta but Henry had originally hoped for Mbappe and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
