He has also scored six goals in six matches for his national team in 2023. Although the other nominees seem to have a better chance of winning the award, being on this list is an accomplishment in itself for the young player.
Noah Lyles (Athletics)
The American track and field athlete, who participates in the 100m and 200m events, is one of the nominees. Lyles’ exceptional performance at the 2023 World Athletics Championships is the main reason for his nomination.
The athlete achieved remarkable success by winning three gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events at the World Athletics Championships. He is also regarded as a strong candidate for winning medals at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Armand Duplantis (Athletics)
Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has drawn significant attention with his recent exceptional performances. The Swedish pole vaulter holds the world outdoor record at 6.23 meters and the world indoor record at 6.22 meters.

Max Verstappen (Motor Racing)
Max Verstappen received the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award in 2022. The Belgian Formula 1 driver secured victories at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix and the 2023 Italian Grand Prix, increasing his impressive number of wins to 19 in 2023 and surpassing his record of 15 wins, which he set in 2022.
