Asian Shooting Championship 2023: Schedule, fixtures, India squad, and live streaming details
A total of 24 Paris Olympic qualifying quotas are available in the competition.
The Asian Shooting Championship 2023 is slated to be held from October 22 to November 2, 2023, in Changwon, Republic of Korea. This will be the 15th edition of the continental championship, and a total of 24 quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be up for grabs. This is the first instance when Changwon International Shooting Range will be playing host to the continental event, having previously hosted the ISSF World Championship in 2018.
Indian contingent at the Asian Shooting Championship 2023 will be led by the likes of Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Manu Bhaker, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Sift Kaur Samra, and Mehuli Ghosh. However, despite their participation in the event, Rudrankksh, Sift, Mehuli, and trap shooter Rajeshwari Kumari, won’t be able to earn Olympic quotas, having earned the same in the ISSF World Championship 2022 and 2023.
In the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event, India has already collected the maximum 2 quotas per National Olympic Committees (NOCs). This is because Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran had previously grabbed the Olympic quotas in the 2022 and 2023 World Championship. As a result, the two shooters, alongside multiple Asian Games 2022 medalist Aishwary, will only compete for the podium finishes.
India at the Asian Shooting Championship
In the previous edition of the Asian Shooting Championship (2019), which was the qualifying tournament for the Summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo, India finished fourth in the overall medal tally, winning 26 medals overall (5 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze medals). In addition, the Indian shooters earned six Olympic quotas. This made their collective quota count to 15, their best-ever Olympic qualification in the sport.
