India is yet to open its medal account in the competition.

The Indian shooting contingent didn’t enjoy a good outing on the opening day of the ISSF World Cup Finals 2023. On the opening day, the pistol contingent led by Sarabjot Singh finished ninth and failed to qualify for the final by a meagre spot. In the women’s section, Divya TS finished seventh in the final while multiple-times Asian Games medallist Esha Singh had a sub-par outing by finishing 13th.

Coming to the rifle shooters, former world champion Hriday Hazarika was the lone Indian to progress to the final after taking the final qualification spot. Another former world champion Rudrankksh Patil finished 13th out of the 15 shooters and bowed out of the competition in the qualification stage.

In the final, Hriday could mange to score only 145.5 and lost in the battle against Germany’s Maximilan Ulbrich who finished a spot above. Parallelly in the women’s event, Elavenil Valarivan was the lone Indian to compete in the final after Ramita Jindal and Mehuli Ghosh finished ninth and 10th respectively.
