Rudrankksh Patil, Mehuli Ghosh win 10m Air Rifle mixed team gold in Asian Olympic Qualifiers

Indian shooters continued their impressive run at the Shooting Asian Olympic Qualifiers 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia, winning five gold medals and securing two quota places for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The pair of Rudrankksh Patil and Mehuli Ghosh clinched the country’s fifth gold medal at the event, winning the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event on Tuesday.

They defeated China’s Shen Yufan and Zhu Mingshuai 16-10 in the final, after finishing second in the qualification round with a total score of 631.3.

The duo has already secured Olympic Quota in 2022 and 2023. Rudrankksh Patil secured the Olympic quota by winning the gold medal in the individual men’s 10m air rifle at the ISSF Rifle World Championship 2022 in Cairo.

Ghosh has also earlier secured a Paris Olympic quota after winning bronze in the 10m air rifle at the Shooting World Championship in Bakum, Azerbaijan in 2023.

The other Indian pair of Rhythm Sangwan and Arjun Singh Cheema also reached the gold medal round in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event and will face Vietnam’s Thu Vinh Trinh and Quang Huy Pham on Wednesday. The team of Rhythm and Arjun topped the qualification round with a total score of 582, ahead of the second-placed Vietnamese duo (580).

Earlier Indian shooters Varun Tomar and Esha Singh secured two Olympic quota places for the country with gold medals in the men’s and women’s 10m Air Pistol events respectively. Tomar shot a score of 239.6 in the final, while Singh scored 243.1 to clinch the top spot.

The duo’s qualification took the total number of Indian shooters bound for Paris to 15. India earlier won 22 medals in shooting at the Asian Games in 2023, including seven gold, nine silver, and six bronze.
