Sarabjot Singh earlier secured the Olympic quota in the same event last year.

The Indian bandwagon of shooting continues to shine after the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Recently, another milestone was added to the successful chapter that our shooters are scripting. 20-year-old spirited shooter Varun Tomar became the 14th and the latest Indian to earn a ticket to the Paris Olympics. Along with the prized ticket to the Paris Olympics, Varun was able to win gold in the 10m individual air pistol event at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers 2024.

The final turned out to be a grueling and closed one between two Indian shooters, Varun Tomar clinched the gold medal with a score of 239.6 in the final while Arjun Singh Cheema took silver with 237.3 points. The bronze medal went to Davaakhu Enkhtaivan of Mongolia, who scored 217.2.

Since Varun and Arjun finished as the top two shooters, they both were eligible for the coveted Paris tickets. But Sarabjot Singh had already booked his spot in the previous year’s Asian shooting championships. So, as per the rules that limit a country to two quotas per category, only one of them could get the quota.

India has currently bagged 14 spots so far, out of which eight have come in rifle shooting, four in pistol, and two in shotgun. A country can have a maximum of 24 spots which is evenly distributed of 8 spots across three event categories- rifle, shotgun, and pistol.
