She is the only Indian in the top 50 of women’s singles rankings.

Indian table tennis sensation Manika Batra has achieved her career-best ranking of 31 in the latest ITTF World Rankings, marking a significant climb of three positions. Her remarkable performance in the WTT Champions tournament in Frankfurt, where she reached the round of 16, contributed to this achievement, despite a 0-3 loss to China’s Wang Yidi.

Manika Batra is the sole Indian woman in the top 50 of women’s singles rankings, while Sreeja Akula slipped three places to 82nd. Batra’s ascent in the rankings reflects her skill and unwavering dedication to the sport.

However, at the 2023 Asian Games, Manika Batra and the women’s team experienced a disappointing exit in the round of 16 against Thailand. Manika faced defeats against Orawan Paranang and Suthasini Sawettabutt during the team event.

In the women’s singles competition, Manika secured a victory over Suthasini in the round of 16 and delivered an impressive performance in the quarterfinals, narrowly losing 2-4 to Wang Yidi in a closely contested match.

In mixed doubles, Manika Batra and her partner, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, slipped one place in the world rankings and are currently ranked 10th. Despite these challenges, Manika’s unwavering determination and competitive spirit continue to shine in the world of table tennis.

Notably, Manika Batra made history by winning a bronze medal for India at the Asian Cup in November. She defeated World No. 6 Hina Hayata (Japan) and World No. 7 Chen Xingtong (China) to achieve this milestone. Manika became the first Indian woman table tennis player to medal at the continental event, following Chetan Baboor, who won silver in 1997 and bronze in 2000.

Manika Batra’s ascent into the top 50 of TT world rankings began in February last year, and she maintained her position in the 30s and 40s throughout 2022.
