Goa retains hosting rights for WTT Star Contender 2024

A total of 13 Contender events are scheduled to be held in 2024.
Following the successful hosting of the WTT (World Table Tennis) Star Contender this year, Goa has retained its rights to host the upcoming 2024 edition, scheduled from January 23rd to 28th. Unlike this year’s March schedule, the WTT has rescheduled the event a month earlier to January.
The WTT Contender Series, a part of the WTT Series, will encompass a minimum of 13 events divided among five WTT Star Contenders and eight WTT Contender events in 2024. Doha will inaugurate the 2024 season at the Lusail Sports Arena, remaining among the select cities hosting the WTT Series since 2021.
International table tennis action returned to India this year after a five-year hiatus. The 2023 edition delivered thrilling moments, with Sutirtha Mukherjee showcasing her best by reaching the pre-quarterfinals. As the sole Indian to advance to the pre-quarters, her stellar performance bodes well for her upcoming tours.
In addition to Goa, Ljubljana, Bangkok, Lanzhou, and Doha are the other cities set to host the WTT Star Contender series. Prize money for WTT Contender events has been raised from USD 75,000 to USD 80,000, while WTT Feeder Series events will now offer USD 22,500 (a 12.5% increase) and WTT Youth Contender events will provide USD 1,000 (a 25% increase)
