Top seed and World No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz, has dropped only two sets so far at Wimbledon 2023. After cruising through in the opening two matches, he dropped a set against Nicolas Jarry in the third round as well as in the fourth round against Matteo Berrettini, against whom the Spaniard had to comeback from a set down. Alcaraz won in straight sets against Holger Rune in the semi-finals.
Daniil Medvedev, on the other hand, has dropped three sets already. His semi-finals clash against debutant Christopher Eubanks went into five sets despite the Russian winning the opening set. He also dropped the first set against Marton Fucsovics in the third round.
This will be the second time Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will face off in the men's singles semi-finals at Wimbledon. Two years ago, Medvedev breezed past a then 18-year-old Alcaraz and 15 months later the Spaniard heads into the clash as the World No. 1.
Both players have also been sensational this season — They are the only two players with 40+ wins in the tour this season. Medvedev has won 46 times and lost only eight, while his semi-finals opponent Carlos Alcaraz is one win behind and has faced only five defeats. It is Alcaraz though who leads the stats on grass courts with 10-0 wins, while Medvedev was 2-2 heading into Wimbledon 2023.
