Top three players with most quarter-final appearances at Wimbledon
Djokovic has most number of grand slam titles in men’s section in the Open Era
Wimbledon Championships 2023 is reaching its business end, and all the big names except Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas have reached the quarter-finals in men’s singles. And the most exciting of all of them has been the path of Novak Djokovic. After taking over the record of most Grand Slams from Rafael Nadal, Djokovic would want to extend his record with a win at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Djokovic has already created several records in his run till the quarter-finals of the 2023 edition of the Wimbledon Championships. He has completed 100 games at the championship, becoming the only third player in history to do so. And now, with the win against Hubert Hurkacz in the Round of 16, he levelled another record.
Novak Djokovic – 14 times
And that record is of levelling with Jimmy Connors (14) to become the player with the second-most quarter-final appearances at the Wimbledon Championships. Novak Djokovic, as aforesaid, beat 26-year-old Polish ace Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in the Round of 16 fixture and will now face seventh-seed Andrey Rublev.
And if the Serbian wins the championship again, he will join Roger Federer to become the player with the most Wimbledon titles in the Open Era (eight wins). And if Djokovic does it in the 2023 edition, he will do it faster than the Swiss maestro, who needed 14 seasons to win eight titles.

Jimmy Connors – 14 times
As aforementioned, Jimmy Connors is the other player to have reached the quarter-finals 14 times in the Open Era. Jimmy Connors was, at his peak, difficult to get the better of. The American won all three Grand Slams he participated in in 1974. He was banned from the French Open, which prevented him from becoming the only player since Rod Laver to win all the Grand Slams in a single calendar year.
Connors finished his career with two Wimbledon Championships. His second came in the 1982 edition. Apart from that, the US national held the ATP World No. 1 rankings in men’s singles for a then-record 160 consecutive weeks. He also finished the years between 1974 and 1978 as the World No. 1 in the ATP men’s singles rankings.
Roger Federer – 18 times
There is possibly no record in Wimbledon that Roger Federer didn’t or doesn’t hold. He has won the most titles, and most games and been to most finals of the Wimbledon in the Open Era. Federer has a 88% win record at the championships and has lost only 14 times in 23 years of his career.
Federer has also the record for most quarter-final appearances at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. He has played in 18 quarter-finals, 10 of which came in consecutive years. That’s a decade of Roger Federer reaching at least the quarter-finals of the tournament. That’s how dominant the Swiss was at the Wimbledon Championships.
