Welcome to Khel Now’s live blog for the Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev semi-final match in ATP Finals 2023.

World No. 4 Jannik Sinner and No. 3 player Daniil Medvedev will square off in the semifinals of the ATP Finals 2023. The Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev clash will be the first semi-final on Saturday. Sinner won the Green Group while Medvedev ended the Red Group on second position. The other two semifinalists are World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev preview

In front of an enthusiastic crowd in Turin, Jannik Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev to become the first-ever Italian to compete in the ATP Finals Championship match. Sinner easily advanced through the Green group with a perfect 3-0 record, recently defeating Holger Rune with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

On the other hand, Medvedev lost in straight sets to Carlos Alcaraz, who took first place in the Red group. Having defeated Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev in Turin, Medvedev is up 2-1 at this week’s Nitto ATP Finals after losing to Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 6-4, 6-4 on Friday.

Head-to-head records

Matches played: 8

Jannik Sinner: 2

Daniil Medvedev: 6

The two, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner have faced each other eight times on tour level with the Russian leading 6-2 against the home favourite. However, their last two encounters were won by Sinner.

Prediction

Medvedev would need to serve better against Sinner even though he will be playing on his preferred court. The World No. 3 was outsmarted in his last fixture against Alcaraz after winning his first two group-stage matches against Rublev and Zverev.

On the other hand, throughout the second part of the season, Sinner has been playing some incredible tennis and will be a home favourite against the Russian. The Italian has also won their last two fixtures and things have changed for him now even though Medvedev leads their head-to-head record.

Not to forget that he won three straight games to top the group, including his first victory over Novak Djokovic in one of the best matchups of the year breaking Serb’s 19-match winning streak.

However, Sinner, who is on a nine-match winning streak, will be entering the match with a back issue he faced in his recent win against Rune which might be a concern. If he can get through the issue, there is no reason to not support the Italian in this one.
