The 43-year-old won achieved this milestone with victory over Hijikata/Kubler pair.

Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna made history at the ATP Finals 2023 in Turin, Italy when at 43 he became the oldest player ever to win a match at the year-ender event. Bopanna and doubles pair Matthew Ebden beat Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler 6-4, 6-4 in their second group stage match on Wednesday.

During the game, Bopanna-Ebden just lost one point on their first serve and saved the one break point to triumph after 72 minutes. The victory meant the duo moved up to 1-1 in Red Group that would keep alive their chances of progressing to the semifinals. The Indo-Australian pair had lost their opening match to defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.

Coincidentally Ram and Salisbury had also defeated them in this year’s US Open finals. Following this win Bopanna and Ebden will be facing the Dutch and English pairing of Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski this coming Friday in a round robin encounter.

The Indian -Australian paired up for the first time at the start of the season and have been on a roll since then. They have had a successful year together and have won tour-level trophies in Doha and Indian Wells. In fact, earlier this year Bopanna became the oldest ATP Masters 1000 champion when he won the Indian Wells doubles alongside Ebden. This is Bopannna’s fourth appearance at the year-end event. However, as a pair they are debuting in the event.
