Jannik Sinner voted fans favourite at 2023 ATP awards

In a year marked by exceptional performances and breakthroughs, 22-year-old Italian tennis sensation, Jannik Sinner, has been voted the fans favourite singles player in the ATP Awards 2023, capping off his career-best ATP Tour season in style.

Sinner, who started the year outside the top 10, has had a meteoric rise, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 4 after winning four ATP titles, including his first Masters 1000 crown in Toronto. The youngster has an impressive 64-15 tour-level record this season.

The Italian tennis star also led his country to its first Davis Cup victory in nearly half a century, a monumental achievement that has filled Italy with immense pride. Furthermore, he made it to the final round of the ATP Finals in Turin, distinguishing himself as the sole player to defeat the world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, not once but twice in 2023. However, despite his commendable efforts, he was unable to clinch the final.

The Fans’ Favourite award, which includes the top 100 singles players and top 25 doubles teams from the season, has been dominated by Roger Federer for almost two decades. However, with Federer falling out of the top 100 in 2022 and Rafael Nadal’s season disrupted by injury, it was guaranteed to be a new winner this year. Sinner emerged victorious, reflecting his growing popularity among tennis fans worldwide.

But the Italian star’s accolades may not stop here. He is also nominated for the ‘Most Improved Player of the Year’ and the ‘Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award’. His coaches, Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi, are in the running for the ‘Coach of the Year’ award.

Sinner’s remarkable achievements in 2023, including his maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown in Toronto, his first major semi-final at Wimbledon, and leading Italy to its first Davis Cup trophy since 1976, have solidified his position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of tennis.
