The Spaniard claimed his maiden Wimbledon title this year.

Carlos Alcaraz had a phenomenal 2023 season, winning his first Wimbledon Championships title by defeating current world no.1 Novak Djokovic in five sets. The young Spaniard also won four Masters 1000 titles, including the Madrid Open, and reached the semifinals of the French Open and the Miami Open. He battled with injuries throughout the year, but also showed remarkable resilience and consistency. The world no.2 had a fierce rivalry with Novak Djokovic and other top-10 players in the men’s singles category.

In this article let’s discuss about Carlos Alcaraz achievements in 2023:

Wimbledon 2023

Carlos Alcaraz defeated the four-time defending champion, Novak Djokovic, in a thrilling final (1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4). This marked Alcaraz’s first Wimbledon title and his second major singles title overall – other being the US Open in 2022. The Spaniard made history by becoming the first player to win a Grand Slam tie-break against Djokovic since Enzo Couacaud’s victory at the Australian Open 2023.

Prior to this, Djokovic had an impressive winning streak, having won the previous 15 tie-breaks, the second-longest such streak in the Open era. Furthermore, Alcaraz became the second player to defeat Djokovic in a five-set Grand Slam final, following Andy Murray’s win at the US Open 2012.

Semifinals in maiden ATP Finals

Alcaraz’s journey in the ATP Finals 2023 started with a loss to Alexander Zverev but the Spaniard did not lose hope and won the next two matches to progress to the knockout stages. Despite losing to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, Alcaraz’s performance was commendable with this being his first season-ending appearance. Although he went down to Djokovic in straight sets, Alcaraz had few good wins under his armoury.

Second most wins in men’s singles category

Carlos Alcaraz’s season has been stellar with a 65–12 win-loss record, an 84.4% win rate. He holds an 11–6 record against top-10 ranked players at the time of their matches. His performance places him second in most matches won, just after Daniil Medvedev, who has 66-18 record this season.

To add more to the list, he successfully defended his titles at the Barcelona Open and Madrid Open. Alcaraz recorded his first grass tournament win at the Queen’s Club Championships, marking his return to world number one. The two-time Grand Slam winner capped off the season by winning his first Wimbledon title and becoming the first player to qualify for the year-end championships.
