He became the eighth man to win five different Masters event.
Daniil Medvedev had a remarkable 2023 season, winning five titles, reaching two Grand Slam finals, and finishing the year as the world no. 3. He started the year with a 19-match winning streak, capturing trophies in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai, and making it to the final of Indian Wells, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a close match.
He then added his fifth Masters 1000 title in Miami, becoming the eighth man to win five different Masters events. Medvedev surprised many with his performance on clay, a surface he had previously struggled on. He won his first clay title in Rome, beating Holger Rune in the final and becoming the first Russian man to ever win the Italian Open.
The Russian also reached the quarterfinals of Monte-Carlo, where he lost to Rune in a rematch. However, he failed to make an impact at the French Open, where he was upset by Rune again in the opening round.
Furthermore, Daniil Medvedev bounced back on grass court, reaching his first Wimbledon semi-final, where he lost to Alcaraz in straight sets. He also made the final of Halle, losing to Jannik Sinner in three sets. Medvedev continued his good form on hard courts, reaching the final of the US Open, where he faced Novak Djokovic, who was aiming for his 24th Grand Slam title and the calendar Grand Slam. Medvedev put up a brave fight, but the Serbian proved too strong and won the match in four sets.
