This will be first meeting between both players

Carlos Alcaraz returned to the Australian Open 2024 after missing out on the 2023 Australian Open and began on a positive note, seeing off veteran Frenchman Richard Gasquet and Lorenzo Sonego in the first two rounds. Alcaraz will be hoping to recapture some of the magic of 2023 that fetched up six ATP titles and was also involved in a tug-of-war for the No. 1 spot with Novak Djokovic.

Juncheng Shang gained a wildcard entry into the main draw of the 2024 Australian Open. The Chinese player has been active on the Challenger circuit in addition to playing in ATP 250 and ATP 500 level tournaments. In 2023, he qualified for the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
