The WTA 500 series is the third-highest tier of women’s tennis tournaments, after the Grand Slams and the WTA 1000 series in tennis. The champion of each WTA 500 event earns 500 WTA ranking points and a prize of $500,000. The WTA 500 series was formerly known as the Premier 700 series until it was rebranded in 2021, to achieve equal prize money across all levels of competition.
The 2024 WTA 500 series features 17 events across Asia and the Americas, offering tennis fans more opportunities to watch live action from the world’s best players. The series kicks off with the United Cup in Australia and concludes with the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Japan.

December 29-January 7-United Cup
Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka failed to defend her Brisbane International title, falling to Elena Rybakina, 6-0, 6-3. Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko claimed the doubles title. The Ukrainian and Latvian duo won against Belgium’s Greet Minnen and Great Britain’s Heather Watson also in straight sets.
December 31-January 7-Brisbane International

January 9-13-Adelaide International

Meanwhile, 3rd seed Marketa Vondrousova withdrew ahead of her first-round match with a hip injury. Taylor Townsend took her place in the draw by being the lucky loser.

January 29-February 4-Upper Austria Ladies Linz
Latvian 6th seed Jelena Ostapenko began her 2024 campaign on a winning note on Tuesday with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the first round. February 5-11-Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open
The Abu Dhabi Open returns to the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi for its second edition. Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic will be returning to the UAE with hopes of defending her crown. Shuai Zhang of China and Brazilian Luisa Stefani were the doubles winners in 2023.
February 26-March 3-San Diego Open
Barbora Krejcikova not only won the singles event in 2023 at San Diego but also the doubles trophy along with countrywoman Katerina Siniakova. The Czech pair defeated American duo Coco Vandeweghe and Danielle Collins in straight sets in a little over an hour. Lifting the doubles trophy was the icing on the cake for Krejcikova after getting the better of another American, Sofia Kenin in three sets in the singles final.
April 1-7, Credit One Charleston Open
The Credit One Charleston Open marks the beginning of the clay court season of the WTA 500. Sixty-four players compete for single glory, while sixteen players are in the fray for the doubles trophy. Ons Jabeur, the 2023 Wimbledon finalist is the defending champion at Charleston in singles, while Danielle Collins and Desirae Krawczyk won the doubles title in 2023.
April 15-21-Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
The action moves to Stuttgart, Germany for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where Iga Swiatek can win her third title in a row. Her opponent in 2023 was Aryna Sabalenka. Demi Schuurs and Desirae Krawczyk will be looking to repeat their wins from 2022 and 2023 as well.
May 19-25-Internationaux de Strasbourg
Elina Svitolina was the singles winner at the Internationaux de Strasbourg in the 2023 season, while the all-Chinese team of Yifan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang took home the doubles trophy.
June 17-23-Berlin Ladies Open
The Berlin Ladies Open is scheduled shortly before Wimbledon and takes place on grass. Czech player Petra Kvitova defeated Donna Vekic of Croatia to win her second title of 2023 after the Miami WTA 1000 event in April. Caroline Garcia and Luisa Stefani were the doubles winners against Czechs Katerina Siniakova and Marketa Vondrousova.
June 24-July 29-Rothesay International
The grass courts of Eastbourne saw Madison Keys lift her sole trophy of 2023 against Daria Kasatkina for a hard-fought straight-set victory, 6-2, 7-6(13). Demi Schuurs and Desirae Krawczyk did the honors in the doubles, winning against Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez in an easy straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-4.
July 29-August 4-Mubadala Citi DC Open
Nineteen-year-old Coco Gauff is the Mubadala Citi DC Open defending champion, having defeated the Greek Maria Sakkari in 2023. Gauff had a memorable year, winning the US Open 2023, and is the youngest player since Serena Williams to do so. The German/Russian pair of Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva took the doubles title.
August 19-24-Abierto GNP Seguros
The Abierto GNP Seguros is a hard-court tournament and one of two WTA 500 events played in Mexico, the other being the Guadalajara Open. The 2023 champions are Donna Vekic in singles and Colombians Yuliana Lizarazo and Maria Paulina Perez Garcia in doubles.
September 9-15-Guadalajara Open
Maria Sakkari made up for her loss against Gauff at Washington by winning the 2023 Guadalajara Open in Mexico a month later. The Greeks did not drop a set to lift the trophy. Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens were the winners of the doubles event against Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe.
September 16-22-Korea Open
Jessica Pegula posted a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win against Yue Yuan of China to win the 2023 Korea Open. Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) and Bethanie Mattek-Sands (United States) won the doubles finals against Thai duo Luksika Kumkhum and Peangtarn Plipuech.
October 14-20-Zhengzhou Open
Qinwen Zheng of China won on home turf at the 2023 Zhengzhou Open, defeating Barbora Krejcikova. The Chinese player had won her maiden WTA title – the Palermo Ladies Open at Palermo, Italy earlier in 2023. Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe picked up the doubles trophy with a win against Japanese duo Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara.
October 21-27-Toray Pan Pacific Open
Toray Pan Pacific Open is the final WTA 500 event of the season and takes place in Tokyo, Japan. Eighth-seeded Veronika Kudermetova won the 2023 edition with a win over second-seeded Jessica Pegula. Kudermetova’s win ensured that she was the second Russian in as many years to win in Tokyo. Liudmila Samsonova won the Toray Pan Pacific Open in 2022. Norway’s Ulrikke Eikeri and Estonian Ingrid Neel were the winners of the doubles trophy.
