List of active players to reach finals of all three clay events at ATP Masters 1000

Carlos Alcaraz becomes the latest star to reach the final of all three clay events at the ATP Masters 1000.

Reaching the championship round of the clay-court swing of the ATP 1000 events is something special. The Monte Carlo Open, followed by Madrid and Rome, is the trifecta of clay-court Masters events. Although all three tennis tournaments are held in Europe, the playing conditions at each venue vary considerably.

Monte Carlo, the first of the three events, takes place at sea level and mirrors playing conditions in Rome. The Italian capital, however, forces players to contend with windy conditions and cooler temperatures.

Madrid, meanwhile, is played at a higher altitude, resulting in a faster pace and more bounce. The opposite is true in Monte-Carlo and Rome, where players who are willing to grind are rewarded. Successfully shifting between the three events is a feat in itself.

The results manifest into something far greater when a competitor experiences success by making the finals and perhaps claiming the trophy. Here are the active players from the ATP Tour who have proved their versatility by making the title round at the three clay-court ATP 1000s.

Stan Wawrinka

Wawrinka’s moment of glory at the ATP 1000s came with his 2014 title run at Monte Carlo. On that occasion, he defeated compatriot Roger Federer for his maiden and only Masters title. Stan Wawrinka has title-round appearances in Rome (2008) and Madrid (2013) among his achievements at the Masters level.

The Swiss have also reached the finals at Indian Wells, which is played on hard courts. In his prime, the 40-year-old consistently performed well at Monte Carlo. Among his exploits at the venue was reaching the quarter-final stage or better five times.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas can be counted among the most consistent clay-court players on the ATP Tour. The Greek has been particularly dominant at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he won the title three times (2021, 2022, 2024). He also has a 22-4 record at the venue.

Although he has not been as successful in the other two clay events at ATP Masters 1000, he was a finalist in Madrid in 2019, where he lost to Djokovic.

Tsitsipas reached the semifinals in Madrid in 2022 but lost to Alexander Zverev. At Rome, the Greek is a two-time semi-finalist (2019, 2023). He came close to winning the Italian Open in 2022, but Djokovic again came in his way.

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has won six ATP 1000 titles, three of which came on clay. The Spaniard won three of the six on clay, two at Madrid (2022, 2023). Alcaraz followed in the footsteps of countryman Rafael Nadal by defending his title in 2023. Nadal won back-to-back titles at the venue in 2013 and 2014.

He followed up with a win in Monte Carlo in 2025, where he defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final. Alcaraz reached his third ATP 1000 clay-court final at the 2025 edition of the Italian Open.

A duel with Jannik Sinner awaits Alcaraz in the title round in the Italian capital as he looks to add the Rome Masters title to his resume. The Spaniard boasts a career win-loss record of 90–19 on clay (82% win rate). on the surface.

With 40 titles, Novak Djokovic is the record holder for most ATP Masters 1000 wins. He touched the milestone at the 2023 Paris Masters when he defeated Grigor Dimitrov for the crown. The Serbian has 11 titles across the three clay-court Masters of Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome.

The 38-year-old has two titles in Monte Carlo (2013, 2015) and three in Madrid (2013, 2016, and 2019). Djokovic reserved his best for Rome, winning six titles in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2020, and 2022.

Djokovic’s title run at Monte Carlo in 2013 stands out, as he ended Rafael Nadal’s stranglehold at the event in the final. The Spaniard had won eight consecutive titles at the venue from 2005 to 2012.
