Alexander Zverev vs Karen Khachanov prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Canadian Open 2025

The upcoming Alexander Zverev vs Karen Khachanov clash is their first meeting in Canada since 2019.

Top seed Alexander Zverev ended Alexei Popyrin’s title defence at the 2025 Canadian Open with a hard-fought 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-3 quarter-final victory in Toronto. Despite narrowly losing the first-set tie-break, where he squandered two set points and was unlucky with a net chord when down a set point, the German quickly responded with emphatic performances in the second and third sets.

His composed outing was marked by 82% first-serve points won and a superb stretch of 16 out of the last 17 points claimed on serve. The victory brought up Zverev’s 75th career tour-level semi-final, making him just the second active ATP player after Novak Djokovic to reach that milestone.

It was also his 21st Masters 1000 semi-final, moving him past Andy Roddick for seventh-most in the series’ history since 1990. This is now only the second time the 28-year-old has qualified for the final four in Canada, with the only other instance occurring back in 2017, when Zverev went on to clinch the crown.

Preview

Karen Khachanov booked his spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 Canadian Open with a dominant 6-4, 7-6(3) victory over rising American Alex Michelsen. The win marks Khachanov’s third semi-final appearance at the ATP Masters 1000 event, having previously reached this stage in 2018 and 2019.

After a tightly contested second set in which both players saved multiple break points, the Russian saved two set points at 4-5 with clutch serving and closed out the match by winning the final five points of the tie-break.

Now into his third semi-final of the season, after Barcelona and Halle, the 29-year-old is aiming to reach his second career Masters 1000 final, having triumphed at the 2018 Rolex Paris Masters.

Zverev is currently on a three-match winning streak against the Russian, having won all matches in straight sets. Their most recent exchange was in Cincinnati last year, with Zverev prevailing 63 62. However, Khachanov emerged victorious when they met in Canada, back in 2019.

Match prediction

Given their current form and head-to-head record, Zverev enters the semi-final as the clear favourite against Khachanov. The German has won five of their seven meetings, including their last three encounters without dropping a set.

While Khachanov has been solid this week, the top seed’s consistency on serve and superior hard-court record this season give him the edge. Expect Khachanov to push the match deep, but Zverev’s momentum and big-match experience should carry him through in three sets.

Result: Alexander Zverev to win in three sets.
