Andrey Rublev vs Gael Monfils prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Monte Carlo Masters 2025

Rublev and Monfils will square off for the first time on clay in Monte-Carlo.
The 2025 season hasn’t been all that special for Andrey Rublev so far. He claimed the Qatar Open title in February but lost in the opening round in both Indian Wells and Miami.
With Marat Safin in his coaching team, Rublev will be looking to re-capture his form and some measure of consistency. The loss to Matteo Arnaldi in the second round of Indian Wells and to Zizou Bergs in his opening match at the Miami Open has seen him drop to World No. 9.
Frenchman Gael Monfils will be the crowd favourite when he takes on Rublev in the second round. Monfils shrugged off a slow start to overcome Fabian Marozsan in three sets. Monfils overcame an opening set deficit to beat the Hungarian qualifier, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and 42 minutes.
The win by the Monfils featured 28 winners and four aces. The 41 unforced errors by Marozsan did him in as he lost to the French veteran for the second time this season.

Preview
The Rublev-Safin coaching partnership will face its first test when the seventh seed takes on the charismatic Gael Monfils in the second round of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters. Rublev signed to use Safin’s services shortly before arriving in Monte-Carlo for the European clay-court swing.
Rublev and Monfils have churned out consistent performances at the venue. The 27-year-old Rublev won the Monte Carlo Masters in 2023. Monfils almost added the Monte-Carlo trophy to his collection in 2016 but came up short when he faced Rafael Nadal in the championship round.
Monfils, who is making his 20th main-draw appearance at Monte-Carlo. He kicked off his 2025 season by taking the ASB Classic title in Auckland in January to become the oldest winner on tour. The World No. 44 turned up to play last season for the first time in eight years but lost in the second round to Daniil Medvedev.
Monfils and Carlos Alcaraz are likely to be an intriguing contest in the last eight given the Frenchman’s surge in the latter stages of his career. The presence of another Frenchman, 20-year-old Arthur Fills in the bottom half of the draw raises hopes of the all-French showdown in the third round.

Match Prediction
Andrey Rublev is yet to put on a display expected from a top-10 player this season. Though he took the title in Doha, he made opening round exits at three subsequent events. His loss to World No. 77 Quentin Halys in Dubai soon after his title run in Doha was a surprise loss.
Gael Monfils is a familiar face at the venue, having made his Monte-Carlo debut in 2005. The 38-year-old made the round of 16 in Miami before losing a three-setter to American Seb Korda.
Rublev has a slight edge on paper, having won the title two years ago. However, Monfils is the in-form player at the moment. Monfils moves to 15-5 this season after his win over Marozsan and a boost from local fans could tip the balance in his favour.
Result: Monfils will win in three sets.
