List of records Novak Djokovic can break at Australian Open 2025
Serbian can break five records in the Australian Open 2025.
It will be a happy homecoming for 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic as he holds the record for winning the most number of Australian Open titles. He is just one short of surpassing Margaret Court to officially become the most successful tennis player in the Open era (statistically).
Djokovic had a middling 2024 year. Having gone through the entire calendar year without a single Grand Slam, many wonder if the Serbian still has one final push in him. Despite not winning a title, the 37-year-old “completed tennis”, having won the Olympic Gold in Paris without dropping a single set, thereby achieving everything possible to be won in the sport.

His start to the new season has been disappointing since he began with a loss to World No. 293 Reilly Opelka in the quarterfinals. Djokovic looked very sluggish at the ATP Brisbane International and will be expected to perform well.
Nevertheless, the 10-time Australian Open winner is well-versed in the nuances of tennis and will always be a challenge to face in Melbourne. That being said, let’s take a look at the five milestones Novak Djokovic can reach at the 2025 Australian Open.
Maintaining his 100% success rate in the Australian Open Finals
Novak Djokovic has appeared in ten Australian Open finals and won all of them. This incredible stat highlights the Serbian’s superb consistency and composure in nervy moments. However, should he advance to the finals in this edition of the Australian Open, he will have to fight down to the wire to keep his record alive.
100th Career Title
Novak Djokovic stands at the cusp of a monumental achievement and he is currently 99*. The Brisbane International tournament was expected to complete his century but it wasn’t meant to be. Achieving such a feat at a venue where he has tasted tremendous success would be fitting.
If he succeeds in lifting another trophy next week, or at any point in the future, he would become only the third man in the Open Era to hit triple-digit career titles after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
At present, Connor with 109 holds the record for most titles in his career and Djokovic would fancy himself going after this milestone as well.
Oldest man to win Australian Open
Novak Djokovic is currently 37 years, 7 months and 7 days old. If he succeeds in his mission, he will become the oldest singles player to lift the Australian Open trophy.
This record is currently being held by Ken Rosewall who won the tournament in 1972 when he was 37 years and 62 days old. Last year, India’s Rohan Bopanna became the oldest ever to have won a Grand Slam, after winning the men’s doubles trophy, alongside Matthew Ebden.
Most number of Australian Open Titles
Novak Djokovic currently leads the list with 10 Australian Open titles and would hope to add another one to his bucket at the 2025 Australian Open. The Serbian has two hat-tricks of Australian Open titles to his name, once between 2011-2013 and then repeating his heroics from 2019-2021.
His first Australian Open crown came in 2008, when he came from a set down to beat Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6. Djokovic has beaten Andy Murray in as many as four AO finals while he has also defeated Rafael Nadal in two finals.
Roger Federer follows Djokovic with 6 Australian Open titles.
Could become all-time leader with 25 Grand Slam titles
Novak Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam titles, which is the highest number of Majors won by a male tennis player. However, in the all-time list, he still shares the podium with Margaret Court, who also has 24 singles Grand Slam titles (including the amateur era). Djokovic had a chance to complete the milestone last year as well, but he lost in all four instances.
At the 2024 Australian Open, he lost to eventual champion, Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. Later, at the French Open, he tore the meniscus of his right knee and was forced to retire from the quarterfinals. At the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, he suffered a disappointing straight-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals.
Similar story repeated at the Flushing Meadows where he was stunned by Alexei Popyrin in the third round. However, he now has the golden opportunity to script history, at a venue where he has enjoyed great success historically.
